Welcome to Craigslist

Craigslist has local classified and forum in many Cities and Countries around the world. Most Postings are free to list. My web page focuses on improving your "for sale" Postings. You are able to use this information for all Craigslist postings. I am focusing on the classified ads because there are over 30 million classified ads posted each month. For more information please refer to Craigslist Fact sheet.

Things you will need

If you have never posted anything on Craigslist before there are a few things that you need to have ready: First thing is to sign up for a FREE Craigslist account using any accessible email address. Don't use a spam email address because you could receive many emails regarding your posts. Next is to figure out what you are trying to post. If you are selling anything please review Craigslist list of prohibited items A Digital camera is not necessary but is highly recommended. Postings last one week from date posted and no spam or over posting. Take your time and look thought Craigslist to see what Craigslist has to offer.

Craigslisting 101

Now that you have chosen something to post you will need to log onto your Craigslist account page. Then in the top Right hand corner is the "post new ad in" this is where you would select a city or town that is closest to you. We are selling, our type of posting is "for sale". Please prevent from posting anything that is prohibited, you will get flagged and your posting will be deleted. From there you will need to choose a category. If your not sure about which category to choose from then you might look to see if there are any similar items listed and which category that item is used in.

Title

You will need to create a title. Titles should include any brand name & model # if possible. If you have enough space then even try to have a catchy phrase.

Price

Next can set a price for your item posting. Usually set a price that you want to sell your item at. Many Craigslist list put $1.00 for there price. Some Craigslister's think that there postings will be looked at more if they list a car for a $1.00.

Location

Then is location. Use a general area, City, or Town nearest to your selling location.

Descriptions

Most Craigslister’s put descriptions and details of there product here. Brand names and Model # are important to the description. Let the user know any details that you think are important. Please ensure that your descriptions best matches your product. Also leave a Phone number here if you want to be contacted by phone.

Pictures

Pictures can make or break your listings. Most users will not look at a posting if there are not pictures, Also it gives the user what the specific item posted looks like. Take a few pictures and decide which ones are the best. Users like to see labels, brand names, & model #. Also if there is something specific that your posting(s) is referring to. Pictures can be placed from your computer to your Craigslist posting by clicking the Add/edit Images. From there you can browse for the Image from the folder saved on your computer. There are 4 possible pictures and they will appear at the bottom of your postings. This is a good way to start when first listing

Review & post

When your title, price, location, description & pictures are complete push continue. You posting will appear exactly how others will see it.

If you need to make any changes to the posting the push the edit button and it will send you back to the posting page. IF you’re happy with what you have created then push continue. It will prompt you to verify the words that appears. Fill in the words in the space provided and after about ten min you’re posting should be listed available for public view.

After your posting has been word verified, you are able manage your postings in your Craigslist account page.

Advanced intro

I have been working on Craigslist for a while, trying different ways to improve Craigslist postings. I tried different template sights and was soon frustrated with them because either I need to pay for the sight, or I wasn't finding a template for my ideas. Over time on Craigslist I learned that you can make your postings stand out using HTML codes. After no time I was amazed at what these codes could do. Without classes I learned how improve my Craigslist postings.

This made the difference in sales tremendously. I even received many email asking what I did to make My page look like that. This is the reason why I Created this web page.

You will need to have somewhat of an idea of how you want your layout to look. Title, pictures, descriptions, ect. Open a word pad or write program and copy and paste everything from there. Craigslist has cleared pages that I have been working on before. Word saves me time in the long run. Your pictures and information codes will be in your Craigslist Posting Description area.

Html

Html is the KEY to creating all advanced postings. It is also the basics on how web pages are formed. I am assuming that you’re not familiar with html and this is why you’re checking this sight out. When first using html codes keep it simple. Try not to make more complicated than you need. Start with the Basics and work your way up.

Html is a universal code that tells the web how to layout your page. All Html codes start with < symbol and end with the >.All html codes have an opening and a closing. <open> </close>. The difference between the 2 are the open has no / and the close has the /. Most code will have information to be filled in Between the open and close html codes. Paragraphs Heading Description are some information that can go in between the open and close codes. If you open a code and forget to close the code or what you are trying to do wont work. Html will create the layout you need to make advanced postings.

Step one "Headers"

Headers are the easiest to start with to create a header you can an "h" code. The size of your header is defined by a number 1-6, h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6. 1 being the biggest and 6 the smallest. a example of a header look like this:

Now that you have your first html code. We can experiment with our first code. The easiest way to experiment is open another tab. Copy the above code. Login onto your Craigslist account page. After you have selected your category. Paste the code in the "posting descriptions area". Be sure to add a title. When finished pasting click on continue. Don’t worry you can click on the edit button before finalizing. Congratulations on creating your first Html code. A Heading isn’t going to be the only thing that you post. Click on the Edit button and it will return you to your posting description page.

Paragraphs

Paragraphs are simple. The paragraph code is "p" This creates simple paragraphs. Craigslist doesn’t need the "p" code to create a paragraph but this is such a simple code I needed to include it. It is a good idea to practice using the "p" tag when ever you can. This is what the paragraph tag looks like

Advanced Photos.

You can create Html codes for your pictures through http://photobucket.com. Some great advantages to using photobucket is the ability to have more than 4 pictures, editing, slideshows & bigger and clear pictures.

This is a FREE sight. Create an account and load your pictures onto here. Photobucket also creates different codes for Links and emails. I use the Html code to post multiple pictures. You also can edit all aspects of your pictures here. One main thing to notice is that the sizes of the pictures are bigger than Craigslist normal pictures. Click on the picture to edit and it will show you how big the pictures are. Make sure that you note the width size of your pictures, you may need to resize the picture to fit the posting. Photobucket uses Width x Height.

Now back to your Craigslist posting page that has your title and Description. You will need to copy the Html code from photobucket and paste below the description of your item listed.

Below is what your Html codes should look like with your Header Description and Photo.

Note that you can put your pictures anywhere on the description page. If you want a photos below your header followed by your descriptions. Then simply paste the picture code below the header code. Followed by your paragraph.

There are many different style that you can use to arrange your postings. What I showed is a simple way of making your posting look different than every other posting.

Add a Counter

DeadBrokeTim uses a hit counter to track how many Craigslister’s look at my postings. This is the Free hit counter a sight that ask for email to get the Html code that you will copy and post in the Craigslist Description page.

Title, Price, & Location

DeadBrokeDeals uses the same name in all my titles and Description. Build a name so that if a user saw or searched my name then they will know that it is our stuff. Good customer service and Great HONEST product Description builds repeat Craigslist customers.

DeadBrokeDeals Delivers. Offer delivery if possible. Many users like the fact that they can stay home and get there product brought to them. The down fall is that if the user decides that the product isn’t what they wanted. Great pictures and accurate descriptions will avoid most conflict. Also we specify that there is a gas charge regardless of purchase. If you not able to offer delivery then use a general area, city, or town in the location area.

DeadBrokeDeals "Delivery Available in your city here" is a Great line to use in your location area Craigslist allows you to hold that many characters. Take advantage of how many characters you can use in this area. You can put the details of your delivery on the description area.

Price keep it simple here no reason to deceive the customer. Be careful everyone on Craigslist will haggle your listing price. If you want to let the customer you’re Firm on the price. It would be a good idea to list that in your posting description.

Term and Conditions

I always add a Terms and Conditions at the bottom of all my postings. This covers my Delivery options, A contact number, and anything else you need to cover. This ensures you are covering your self from them with questioning anything that need to state.(Gas charge ect.)

Repost every 48

Craigslist will allow you to one category and in one city, no more often than about every 48 hours. If you are submitting a post that is similar to another currently active post of yours on the site, you will get a blocked message. Removing the active post will allow you to post the new ad, unless the active post is less than 48 hours.

Although Craigslist postings will last a week, your postings go in order of date posted. After about 48hrs there more than likely posting ahead of yours. Erase & Reposting after 48hrs will help customers see your posting first.
